Get to Know BOLD: Connecting Ohio Voters with Knowledge and a Voice

Before you cast your ballot, you deserve to know who’s on it. What do the candidates stand for? What do they plan to do for your community? And will they stand up for your right to be heard?

These questions are at the heart of Black Ohio Leaders for Democracy (BOLD). We’re committed to helping Ohio voters understand their choices, learn about candidates at every level of the ballot, and make informed decisions about the people seeking to represent them.

Why We Do This Work

The decisions made by elected leaders reach into our everyday lives; from our schools and neighborhoods to the policies that shape opportunities for our families. Knowing who is asking for your vote, and what they plan to do with that responsibility, matters.

BOLD works to connect voters with information about candidates, their positions, and their commitment to protecting everyone’s right to vote. We believe voters deserve to know who is showing up for their communities and where candidates fall short.

When candidates aren’t fighting for us, we won’t stay silent. Asking questions and holding leaders accountable are essential parts of our work.

Our Roots in Community Organizing

In 2020, a small group of Black leaders and activists came together to reach thousands of voters across Ohio. Through community outreach and voter mobilization, they helped connect people with the information and encouragement to participate in the election.

That work reflected a belief that continues to guide BOLD: reaching people directly can make a difference. A conversation, a message, or a knock at the door can give someone an opportunity to ask questions, get informed, and take their next step toward the ballot box.

What It Means When You Hear from BOLD

You may hear from us through a text message, a piece of mail, or a conversation at your door. Each is an opportunity to connect with voters and share information about the choices ahead.

Our goal is to help you feel more informed about who is on your ballot and how their priorities align with the issues that matter to you. We hope those connections encourage you to participate and choose leaders who will represent your interests in government.
